Children's Ministry Needs Volunteers
There is a real need for additional teachers and helpers in our children's classrooms on Sunday mornings. As a reminder, we ask that all parents whose children participate in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education, serve at least once a month in one of the classrooms. Of course, we are looking for and relying on others of you who may have the flexibility, passion or "call" to serve more than once a month in our children's classrooms as well. As it stands, there are many holes in our monthly classroom volunteer list. Ideally we'd like to establish a complete monthly schedule of teachers and helpers to create better consistency and in turn continue to provide quality care and education for each child. Please contact Shelleena McConnell (Children's Ministry Director) at children@firstfamilyministries.com to get on the volunteer schedule!
Christmas Sweet Orchestra
During Christmas, FFC will hold a multi-night Christmas event called, “A Christmas Sweet.” If you play a symphonic instrument (strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion) and if you are high school age and up, please consider auditioning!
Help Package Meals
Meals from the Heartland is a non-profit organization in Des Moines that coordinates mass meal packaging efforts for impoverished countries. Once packaged, meals are shipped around the globe to the world’s most starving countries. Currently they are promoting a campaign that targets churches around Iowa. The purpose? To get involved! How? By praying, giving and serving! You can register to package meals during their BIG Packaging Event, September 2-5, in downtown Des Moines at Hy-Vee Hall. This would be a great opportunity for Lighthouses, families, friends and individuals. For more information and to sign up, please click here.
House of Praise Needs
House of Praise is in need of drummers, electric guitar players and bass players to fill the ranks of the worship team. If you play any of these instruments, please consider auditioning for a place in the monthly rotation.
'Winning at Work' Men's Event
The Men’s Ministry will host the “Winning at Work” event on September 17 at 6 p.m. at a camp site near the Saylorville dam (directions and specific location TBA). The evening will include a guest speaker and discussion, and be followed by fellowship and an overnight camp out. If you are interested or would like more info, contact Nate Pritchard 515-724-3297 or njpritchard35@hotmail.com.
Communion
Communion will be observed in our Lighthouses during the months of September and October.
Fall Expo
With the new school year officially started, that means a new ministry year is around the corner. The Fall Ministry Expo is your opportunity to see all of our Lighthouses available around the area, meet the Lighthouse leaders or members from their group, and most importantly, signup to become a part of a Lighthouse! Also during the Fall Expo we will have many of our ministries on display with information and volunteer opportunities. Whether you have considered becoming a part of the House of Praise tech crew or teaching in the Children’s Ministry, you can find your place of service at First Family this fall. The Ministry Expo will be on Sunday, August 29, Sept. 5 and Sept. 12 before and after the morning celebration services.
Fall Teachers for Kid Central
Fall teachers are needed in the following Kid Central elementary classes on Sunday mornings. Please contact Shelleena McConnell, FFC's Children's Ministry Director, at children@firstfamilyministries.com.

Friendship Center - Volunteer Banquet
The Friendship Center in Des Moines will hold it's annual Volunteer Banquet and Training event on September 7 at 6 p.m. at their facility, located at 1526 Martin Luther King Parkway. If you have volunteered this year, the center would like to honor you by serving you dinner! Also, if you are interested in learning more about the Friendship Center, you are also invited to come and hear about how you can get involved. Please RSVP to Jon and Mindy Jamison at Jamison@friendshipbaptistcenter.org or 244-1701.
Worship Choir
Beginning September 19, The House of Praise worship choir will once again join the praise team to lead worship. The worship choir will sing once a month on Sundays during the school. If you are interested in joining this choir, please email Marty Kelly (Pastor of Celebration) at worship@firstfamilyministries.com. Practices are held the Wednesday prior at 6:30 p.m. in the worship center.
Unfinished Project Night
The Women's Ministry "Unfinished Project Night" is held the 4th Friday of every month from 6-11 p.m. in the cafe area. Bring along your scrapbooking, knitting, crochet and cross-stitch projects, (stamping and card making and any other craft is welcomed too…) and socialize while you work away! This is the perfect opportunity to get ideas, learn or master a skill, or just meet someone new.
