Celebration Ministries (Marty Kelly)
It’s not just about singing – there is a need for sound technicians (we’ll teach you this art!), instrumentalists, Power Point operators, and ensemble/choir members for special occasions and various events. So whether you wish to join First Family’s Generation Band or simply help on the technical side, our Celebration Ministries may be right down your alley.
Our Website, publications, and e-newsletters are all designed to communicate the vision of FFC, so this ministry is led through our pastor’s office. Have a bent towards the technical? Like to write? Consider FFC’s communication team.
Drama Team (Dave and Joyce Hansen)
Drama is a valued resource at FFC, and it can add a spice of intrigue, humor or reflection into our weekend services that few things can. This mostly involves practice time apart from Sunday and the ability to not only find humorous, pointed scripts but possibly create ones as well.
FFC is always on the lookout for men who desire to lead and shepherd God’s church. This responsibility is huge, and extensive training is required. However, we take seriously God’s command in 1 Timothy 2:2 (“teach faithful men”), so if you sense leadership of this magnitude may be in your future, then the eldership training cycle may be of interest to you.
Equipping Classes (Chris Eller)
In addition to our Lighthouses, FFC also provides learning environments in a class setting that typically meet during one of our morning services. You could call this “Sunday School” for adults where the primary focus is Bible training and theology. A team of teachers meets regularly and handles the yearly curriculum plan, and quality communicators are needed on a regular basis.
Facility (RJ Parks)
This team of committed people handles the majority of FFC’s set up needs on Saturday. This is a “checklist” type of opportunity that requires some lifting and carrying. In addition, a crew stays around after the second service to tear down and store all our mobile equipment.
First Impressions: Celebration Grounds Café (Gary and Jessica Pennings)
This involves setting up drinks and food between the services, and welcoming and serving others who are either leaving the 8:30 or coming to the 10:30 service.
First Impressions: Greeters (Dennis and Paula Moenkhaus)
These “people-people” have time slots before and after each Sunday service and are responsible to welcome folks, give directions, provide name tags, etc. This opportunity suits folks who love strangers and count everyone as a friend.
First Impressions: Signage (Greg Davidson)
Good signs and easy-to-find parking are just two of the ways FFC strives to create a healthy image even before people walk in our doors. Consider giving a few minutes on a Saturday evening to post signs at strategic intersections, or join a parking lot team for one of our services. Either way, you’ll be helping families get a good start every Sunday!
First Impressions: Ushers (Ben Robie)
Handing out worship folders, assisting with seating, and collecting the offering each week are the main responsibilities of our ushers. These folks rotate on a regular basis and help with our weekend services.
First Impressions: Welcome Center (Marti Skow)
This is the first and last stop for all sign ups and information at First Family, the centralized place for FFC-ers to start off on the right foot. Ready to assist new families with locations? Want to help members connect to new ministries? Can you retain lots of information at one time? Sounds like you’re ideal for the Welcome Center!
Hospitality (Kathy Baldwin)
While most of our caring and shepherding is done through our Lighthouses (small groups), there are times when needs arise and our church rallies to handle specific situations with meals, childcare, baby showers, etc. This requires a team of people willing to coordinate and activate others so that needs are met. If you have mercy gifts and/or administrative skills, this would be a good fit!
- Early Childhood – We provide a nurturing environment for children during both services for birth–PreK. Lessons and activities are planned for you; implementing them is the main responsibility. You can either help in the birth to 2 yrs. old, 2&3 yrs. old or the 4&5 yrs old. In addition, there is a Wednesday Evening Playgroup for preschoolers where you can help minister to kids and parents (6:30-7:45). This is not childcare…it is family-care! Setting up activities and arranging playful environments is the main responsibility of those on this team. Furthermore, seasonal training classes and in-home visits are also part of FFC’s Early Childhood Ministry, so qualified trainers and mentors are always a welcomed asset to the team.
- Elementary – School age children also have “Sunday School” type classes during both Sunday services, and adults who are willing to teach and disciple these youngsters weekly is a great opportunity. We provide the lessons and activities; you simply implement the plan and love kids! There are three divisions in our elementary group currently (K, 1-2 grade, 3-4 grade), and as our team develops more, we will get even more age-specific with our classes and ministry. Besides Sunday, Kid’s Central also offers various skill-based classes and discipleship groups each Wednesday, such as children’s musicals, sports clinics and outdoor clubs. These usually operate quarterly, and since registration is requested for these classes, please check the worship folder, welcome center, or Web site for full information about what is being offered.
- The Bridge – This is our 5th grade youth group, and one of its aims is to help our pre-adolescents make a smooth transition from elementary to Jr. High. Can you open your home for an event? Can you teach a lesson? Lead worship? Consider crossing the bridge with our 5th graders!
Lighthouses/Small Groups (Chris Eller)
Our small groups are known as Lighthouses, and each Lighthouse needs a host and a leader. Providing a home is as key as leading the group, and they work together to provide a regular environment of discipleship and care to those within their group!
Men’s Ministries (Todd Stiles)
Weekly accountability groups, early morning “spiritual fraternity” meetings, and periodic big events for men are part of FFC’s outreach to men in our metro area. Leading a Bible study, organizing a trip or simply providing direction and ideas by being part of the leadership team, there is room on this team for men who desire to be God’s man for their family, church and community.
Missions (Todd Stiles)
From Australia to Thailand and Peru to Afghanistan — we are honored to support a host of missionaries as well as continuing to build solid relationships with each of them. Sponsor a missionary through prayer in your Lighthouse group, or serve with our missionaries overseas and stateside.
FFC’s Student Ministry (Nathan Hiatt)
Our youth ministry is top-of-the-line! Whether in their small groups or large groups, our youth ministry has quality leaders and is committed to discipling teenagers to be more like Christ. Interested? Have a passion to serve those in grades 6-12? Consider joining the youth ministry team of leaders as they connect to students.
Sunday Clean Up (Dennis Davidson)
Because we currently lease space for our weekend services, we also are responsible to clean up the areas we use. Can you lend a hand for few minutes after one of our services to empty trash, vacuum a room, or clean a sink? How about checking the aisles for leftover worship folders or dropped cups? Many hands make light work, so why not get involved!
Our post-high school ministry consists of both college age and after-college age individuals. In addition to their Lighthouse, they are involved in weekly and monthly Bible studies, activities, and projects, and serve in various ministries here at FFC.
Wellness Ministry (Amber Gustafson)
At FFC, we desire to help you become all you can be for God, not just spiritually, intellectually, and emotionally, but also physically. Regular exercise classes, sports leagues, personal training and seasonal seminars are part of this ministry. If you have a bent towards sweat and desire to help individuals and families get active, this ministry may be just what you’re looking for.
Women’s Ministries (Sheila Kelly)
Discipleship groups and Bible studies for women are a regular item at FFC. Led by a team of women who meet regularly to brainstorm ideas and schedule women’s events, the women’s ministry seeks to reach out to ladies and help them feel fulfilled, equipped and complete in a world where outer flash and physical beauty is overemphasized.

Lighthouses are the key way to meet others, get connected and be encouraged in your spiritual growth here at First Family.
